The company history of shipping agents George Hammond. Hammonds of Deal were in business on their own account certainly from 1767, when they supplied the needs of the numerous ships in the Downs. The Lathams were also in business in Dover and, in due course, became Latham, Rice and Co., and later still merged with Hammonds, becoming Latham, Hammond and Co. Out of these grew George Hammond and Co., ultimately George Hammond PLC, still extant. A fascinating account of a premier Dover company.
