Bound in original red cloth with black decorative title; spine rebacked preserving original printed paper label. Patterned endpapers. Some wear and staining of extremities, including corners and stains at top edge of last 40 pages and and on rear endpapers; otherwise a very good copy. 1888 signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by frontispiece and by text figures. Decorated by head and tailpiece vignettes and by initials. Chapters on the themes of the shop and public house signs of Essex.
