Separate half title for The Synagogue. Both title pages printed within double borders. Bound in contemporary leather, spine rebacked. Sensitive gutter repair to portrait frontispiece, but otherwise a very good clean interior. Early signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece and by two text engravings, The Church Porch and The Church. Decorated by head and tailpiece vignettes and by initials. The poem, Easter-Wings (The Temple, p.34-35) is printed sideways on facing pages. The Temple and other poems by George Herbert (1593-1633), Church of England priest, poet and musician, first published 1633. It is accompanied by The Synagogue; Or, The Shadow of the Temple: Sacred Poems and Private Ejaculations in Imitation of Mr. George Herbert, a further collection of English devotional poems, by Christopher Harvey (1593-1633), first added to editions of The Temple in 1640.
