Illustrated by 6 colour plates and by line drawings, including title page vignette. Coloured pictorial endpapers. Attractively illustrated children's book, by Dorothy Mary Clewes (1907-2003), who also wrote adult novels,. The title was a successor to The Cottage in the Wild Wood, 1945 (Furrowed Middlebrow website). With the artwork of Irene Beatrice Hawkins (1906-79), artist and illustrator, educated in York (Artist Biographies website).
