Vol. I, xxiv + [ii] + 314 pp.; Vol. II, xxiv + 344 pp.; Bound in original green patterned cloth, gilt, with decorative blind stamped borders on boards and gilt blocks at base of spine. Rough cut edges. Vol. II has uncut pages and some foxing. A little wear to extremities, including corners and heads and tails of spines, which are sunned; otherwise a very good set. 1953 Folkestone inscriptions on first free endpapers. An edition of Dryden's poems with introductory sections by the Rev. George Gilfillan (1813-78), ordained Scottish minister who was also a poet and literary editor. First edition of the Nichol imprint of this title.
