8vo. 8.75 x 6 inches. xxvi + [ii] + 267 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, with coat of arms on front board. Rough cut edges. Spine and board edges sunned, flyleaves sunned and page edges foxed. Rear hinge starting to crack, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 24 pages of black and white plates, including frontispiece and by 3 folding genealogical tables at end. An account of the Wentworth family of Nettlestead Hall, Suffolk, with special reference to Henrietta Maria, Baroness Wentworth (1657?-1686). Of Kentish interest is a reference to the 1656 Westenhanger Plot to murder the fugitive Charles II in Westenhanger Castle, near Hythe (p.26 and plate). Allan Fea (1860-1956), historian and antiquary, interested in the Civil War and House of Stuart, published various titles on the seventeenth century and on aspects of old English houses, including King Monmouth (1902).
