8vo. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. 963 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, decorated with blind stamped borders on boards and with gilt blocks and blind stamping on spine. Rough cut edges. Some pages uncut. Top edge gilt. Some wear to extremities, including head and tail of spine, which is sunned; otherwise a very good copy. 1919 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 40 colour plates, including frontispiece. A volume in the set of the Works of Charles Dickens by Chapman and Hall who published the first edition of this title in 1844. Illustrated with forty colour plates by the original illustrator, Phiz (Hablot Knight Browne, 1815-82).
