Illustrated by portrait frontispiece, by line drawings in text, including whole page and by facsimile poem. Decorated by title page vignette. Studies of English country craftsmen and their methods of work first published as a series of articles in The Architectural Review, 1941-43. Thomas Hennell (1903-45), author and artist was best known for his drawings on the subject of the English countryside, agriculture and rural life. The volume includes a long memoir of this talented artist by the rural writer, H. J. Massingham (1888-1952).
