4to. 10.5 x 8.25 inches. 349 pp. In pictorial card wrapper. A little wear to extremities, including creased corners, but otherwise a very good copy. Inscribed by author on title page. Illustrated by black and white photographs and other text figures, facsimiles and map. A detailed history of art teaching in some twenty five localities across the historic county of Kent. Three of the surviving art schools, at Maidstone, Rochester an Canterbury, were amalgamated in 1987 to form the Kent Institute of Art and Design, which, after 2005 merged with schools in Surrey to form the current University for the Creative Arts. The author, David Haste, a practising artist, has had a long experience of art teaching and from 1982-98, was Head of the Fine Art School of the KIAD in Canterbury.
