TWO VOLUMES. FIRST EDITION. 12mo. 8.5 x 4.5 inches. Vol.I, xxxii + 306 pp.; Vol. II, [ii] + 352 pp. Copy lacks half title in Vol.II, removed by binder. Rebacked in half brown leather, gilt, over marbled boards. A little browning of lower corners of flyleaves and title pages, but otherwise a very good crisp copy. Published anonymously by James Justinian Morier (c.1780-1849), born in Ottoman Smyrna of a Levantine merchant family who served as a diplomat in Persia and later in Mexico. His 1812 account of his travels and experiences in the Middle East was followed by the two Hajji Baba stories, this title being the sequel to the first, The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan (1824), a satirical novel of Persia in the Qajar dynasty. This time it provides the author an opportunity to satirise the ways of the English.
