12mo. 5 x 3 inches. x + 480 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt. Extremities quite worn, front hinge cracked and damp stain on edge of plates; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by frontispiece and engraved vignette title. A work of imitation orientalia, allegedly translated from the Persian and composed by the imam, Horam, whose life appears as an introduction. It is in fact an original work of the imagination, a type of Arabian Nights fantasy, by James Kenneth Ridley (1736-65), a British army chaplain. First appearing in 1764 it was a popular work, appearing in numerous editions into the nineteenth century.
