FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. viii + [iv] + 244 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper with sunned spine. Some creasing on lower part of plates, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white plates and by maps. Decorated by chapter heading vignettes. Account of the author's travels in Aegean Turkey, Lycia and Anatalya, interspersed with many personal experiences. A later paperback edition added the subtitle,' An Escape from the Tyranny of Western Art; fragments of an Autobiography.' By Brian Sewell (1931-2015), acerbic art critic and controversial anti-populist, who gained a wider reputation later in life through his broadcasting.
