FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. 9.5 x 7.25 inches. [vi] + 18 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear including head and tail of spine and also some foxing and staining. 1964 inscription, and signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 38 colour and black and white pages of plates. Monograph on the Swiss born Australian artist, Sali Herman (1898-1993), who served as a war artist in the Pacific theatre and was known for his paintings of Sydney street scenes. It includes thirty eight plates and lists of exhibitions and paintings to 1961. By Australian art historian, Daniel Thomas (b.1931), who held successive posts in the three principal galleries in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide.
