Item Description
Large 4to. 12 x 9.75 inches. 192 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial; dust wrapper. Slight wear to corners and base of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. 1997 gift inscription on verso of first free endpaper. Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white, with pictorial endpapers and title page. Revised and updated catalogue of the entire graphic works works of John Piper (1903-92), painter, printmaker and designer. It completes the record started by Levinson in the 1987 catalogue and incorporates prints produced after, as well as rediscovered earlier work. An official war artist in World War II, Piper's work particularly focused on the British landscape, but he also designed the stained glass Baptistery window of the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral. A catalogue of 433 items with twelve indexes and lists, including non-graphic designs. Compiled by Orde Levinson, Namibian born art historian based in Oxford.
