A study of the religious symbolism of hair including a study of the matted hair priests and priestesses of the great pilgrimage centre of Kataragama, Sri Lanka. By Gananath Obeyesekere (b.1930), Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at Princeton, whose research was based on how personal symbolism was related to religious experience.
