A little wear to extremities, including sunning of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 7 pages of black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece. Decorated by title page photographic vignette. George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquis of Kedleston (1859-1925), under whose viceroyalty (1899-1905), the British Raj in India is often considered to have reached its apogee, travelled extensively in Asia early in his career. This title transcribes in English, the relevant diary extracts covering his two visits to Japan in 1887 and 1892. Edited by Anthony Farrington, writer on the East India Company and early English trade with Asian countries. A publication of The Richard Cocks Society, based at Chukyo University, Nagoya. It is named after Richard Cocks (1565-1624, who established the first East India Company trading post in Hirado, Japan in 1613.
