8vo. 8.25 x 6 inches. xviii + [ii] + 326 pp. All text within ornamental border. Illustrated by two steel engraved plates, including frontispiece. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, boards with gilt borders enclosing gilt blocks. Bevelled board edges. Rough cut page edges. A little wear to extremities, including corners and head and tail of spine. A few page edge tears, including title page, wear to edge of frontispiece and occasional traces of foxing; otherwise a very good copy. 1907 gift inscription on second free endpaper. The journal of Queen Victoria covering her life and travel from 1848 to 1861, with additional accounts of other tours and excursions in and around Scotland, England and Ireland. Edited, and with preface, by Arthur Helps (1817-75), essayist, historian and Clerk to the Privy Council from 1860. The first edition was published 1868.
