FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. 191 pp. Bound in red patterned red library buckram cloth. Ex-library copy with stamps. Extremities worn including corners and head and tail of spine. Scattered foxing, but otherwise a good copy. Illustrated by 15 pages of black and white photographic plates, including portrait frontispiece. Very good account of cross channel swimming, which remains one of the best works on the subject. Sam Rockett (1919-89) was a famous figure in Folkestone in the 1950s, assistant manager and instructor at the open air pool and training supervisor for the Daily Mail and Butlin's international Channel races, 1950-51 and 1954.
