Popular print, social satire: three actors are on stage, one playing a doctor and examining the mouth of another, the third acts as hob,( a type of small mythological household spirit) kneeling beside and putting a flower on the doctor's head, the audience standing around the stage and watching the performance.
Item Description
10.5 x 7.5 inches. Monochrome etching on paper. Good condition. Publisher of popular prints and satires, and pharmacist. Usually referred to as Davison of Alnwick. In the period between 1812 and 1817, Davison produced a number of caricatures, amusing if somewhat crudely executed plates often based on better known prints. In later life he appears to have worked primarily as a pharmacist and druggist, and was recorded as a chemist and bookbinder on the 1851 census.
