Item Description
4to. 10 x 7.75 inches. xii + 320 pp. In yellow limp card wrapper with black titles. Extremities worn with spine sunned and traces of removed sellotape at base of spine. Label of Eaton Hall College of Education on first free endpaper and stamp at foot of title; also later ownership stamp and label; otherwise a very good copy. The Institute and Museum collected farm business records from all the pre-1974 English counties and deposited them in the University Library where they were catalogued, this guide being a condensed version of the full typescript catalogue. It is arranged in alphabetical order of counties and includes farm and place name indexes. There is an introduction by J. A. Edwards, then University Archivist and an essay by E. J. T. Collins, then Associate Director of the Institute of Agricultural History on The survival and use of farm records, which also discusses the methodology of collecting. The Institute name is now no longer used and the University Special Collections, including the Farm Records collection, have been transferred to the site also occupied by the Museum of English Rural Life.
