4to. 9.25 x 7.25 inches. [xii] + 472 pp. + [8] pp. index. COPY LACKS 2A SIGNATURE, pp. 185-192. Bound in vellum, which has 2 splits and and is age darkened and crumpled. Age related wear includes some browning of pages, occasional spotting, a little lower margin worming towards the end and a few tears neatly repaired; otherwise a very good crisp copy. Early library number on first free endpaper and ownership signature at foot of title. Illustrated by 2 wood engraved text figures and by title page vignette. Decorated by headpiece vignettes and by initials. Only the first part was ever published of this history of Christianity in Aquitaine published by Jean D'Alvy in Cahors. Jean-Jerome Baiole (1588-1653), native of Condom, was a Jesuit who taught philosophy and theology, principally in Perigueux. Please note that this copy of the scarce Cahors imprint lacks the 2A signature, but is otherwise complete. A very rare title, with no copies recorded in Britain by Library Hub.
