Illustrated by 23 plates, including folding panoramic frontispiece in colour, black and white photographs, 2 folding maps and 3 folding charts. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Survey of the public health of the city of Liverpool (including an historical chapter), by Edward William Hope (b.1857), Professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool, and former Medical Officer of Health to the City. It examines communicable diseases, including those arriving at the port, schools and schoolchildren, water supply, sanitation, swellings and the underlying social condition of poverty, with examples of municipal improvements in housing and transport infrastructure.
