Rough cut lower page edge. Some wear to extremities, including a few small water stains and foxing of lower board edges; otherwise a very good copy. 1954 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Selections from the notebooks recording her meditations, of Simone Weil (1909-43) French philosopher, mystic, increasingly attracted to Catholicism, and political activist. Long introduction by Gustav Thibon (1903-2001), French philosopher and Catholic author, who hosted Weil at his farm in the Ardeche in World War 2
