FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8 x 5.5 inches. 239 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt with contrasting red title label, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper, which has several missing sections in corner and at top edge and head and tail of spine, which is sunned. Extremities a little worn and sunning of head of spine. Flyleaves browned; otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece and by 22 pages of black and white photographic plates. An account of the Burma campaign set in the Karen Hills. It relates the story of Major Hugh Paul (1909-44), of the British Indian army, who led a guerilla struggle of the local Karen people but eventually surrendered to the Japanese to avoid further bloodshed, and was subsequently executed in Rangoon. By Australian journalist and war correspondent, Ian Morrison (1913-50), who lost his life in the early stages of the Korean War. A very scarce title.
