8vo. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. xxix + [1], including publisher's advertisements + 249 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt. Some wear to extremities, including corners and head and tail of spine. Flyleaves browned and a little spotting of fore edge; otherwise a very good copy. A few pencil and ink annotations in text. Tipped in: typed letter on Gardeners' Chronicle headed notepaper, 27 October 1914, requesting a review and printed copy of the review by E. A. Bowles and a printed copy of that review, November 28, 1924; 3 pages of ink notes. Loosely inserted: 2 tourist brochures on Menton, one of 24 pp, 1925 and one coloured folding, 1930-31. Illustrated by 32 plates in black and white and colour, including frontispiece Attractively illustrated botanical guide to the flowering plants of the French Riviera, with some interesting extra material tipped in and inserted. By the botanist, Harold Stuart Thompson (1870-1940), with an introduction by Arthur Tansley (1871-1955), botanist and pioneer ecologist, then a University Lecturer in Botany at Cambridge.
