Oblong 8vo. 7.25 x 10 inches. 112 pp. Inset: portrait dedication. Illustrated throughout by black and white photographs, including frontispiece. Limited edition account of ten English provincial antiquarian bookshops, the premises and their owners, a companion volume to The London Bookshop (1971). It describes bookshops in Bath, Lewes, Ipswich, Sedbergh, Hastings, York, Newcastle upon Tyne, Ticehurst, East Sussex, Guildford and Crook, Co. Durham. Several of the shops had already closed and others have closed since publication. Illustrated by evocative exterior and interior views. Compiled by David John Chambers (b.1930), printer and printing historian, especially of early private press books, and editor of The Private Library since 1979.
