8vo. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. xvi + 454 pp. + 32 pages publisher's catalogue. Bound in original green cloth with red decorative borders on front board enclosing block, with blind stamped device on rear board; spine in compartments with red bands and gilt block. Some wear to extremities, spine dulled, rear hinge starting to split. Flyleaves and catalogue dulled, but otherwise a very good copy. Pictorial bookplate. Illustrated by frontispiece and by text figures throughout. Decorated by publisher's device on title page and as colophon. A detailed examination of the British reaction to the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte as expressed in satire and caricatures, which were one of the primary media of the day. By John Ashton (1834-1911), social historian. First published in two volumes 1884.
