Illustrated throughout by black and white photographs, including frontispiece and by double page map. Decorated by device on title page. Version of the illustrated edition published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 1999. A narration of the Antarctic expedition, 1914-17, of the explorer, Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) by Alfred Lansing (1921-75), US journalist, whose text was originally published in 1959 based on personal accounts of the expedition's participants. Illustrated by the fine photography, including the icebound ship Endurance, of Australian photographer, Frank Hurley (1885-1962).
