FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 7.25 x 5 inches. x + 62 pp. In stiff card boards with black titles and printed paper title in red on front board. A little wear to extremities, a few stains and a darkened spine; otherwise a very good copy with clean interior. Illustrated by 8 black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece, by folding table, and by facsimiles, tables and diagrams in text. Dewponds are artificial ponds usually constructed on hilltops, to collect rainfall for watering livestock and were characteristic features of the downlands of southern England. This monograph by Alfred J. Pugsley of the St. George Secondary School, Bristol, is the most considered and systematic of the pre-war literature on the subject of the pond; and is very well illustrated with photographs and tables based on his survey work. Scarce original edition.
