4to. 11 x 9 inches. 192 pp. Bound in green cloth spine with black titles over stiff boards, with pictorial printed paper covered front board. Extremities worn, including edges and corners. Some scattered foxing and a few marks left where plant material has been removed; otherwise a very good copy. 1916 signature on verso of first free endpaper. Illustrated by 29 colour plates, including frontispiece, paginated in text, by 50 listed black and white text figures, many whole page (p.83 ably hand coloured in part) and by other text figures and vignettes in colour and black and white, including title page. Pictorial endpapers. The 1916 issue of Blackie's Children's Annual which was issued c.1904-40. Lavishly illustrated in colour and black and white, it includes Long Stories and Short Stories and Verse, with contributions by Algernon Blackwood, Angela Brazil, Alice Talwin Morris, and numerous others listed on the contents page. Some wartime references are to be found, e.g., in the story, A Birthday to be Remembered.
