Notes
The identity of this property is not certain. It is probably not the still existing Starkey's Castle. a medieval manor house which in the 1790s would have been a farm with outbuildings as it was in its 1846 sale. From the sale particulars it sounded a more modern dwelling suitable for the tastes of the late eighteenth century: 'the Premises have been built in an uncommon substantial Manner, neatly finished, and disposed on a most eligible convenient Plan...forming a most complete Residence for a Genteel Family.'
