FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 6.5 x 4.25 inches. [xiv] + 104 + [3] pp. index + [7] pp. advertisements. Bound in original brown cloth. Patterned pastedown endpapers. Extremities worn, including corners and head and tail of spine. Board titles faded and rear hinge starting to crack; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by frontispiece and by engraved text figures. The first edition of this basic guide to microscopy by Thomas Charters White (1828-1916), which was followed by several later editions under the title, The Microscope And How to Use It. The Quekett Microscopical Club, which still exists, was founded in 1865 and named after the Victorian microscopist, John Thomas Quekett (1815-1916).
