8vo. 5.5 x 3.75 inches. 717 pp. Main text in double columns. Bound in contemporary black cloth with blind stamped borders enclosing decorations. A little wear to extremities, including corners and head and tail of spine. Front hinge starting to crack, but otherwise a very good copy. 1873 signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by engraved portrait frontispiece, with facsimile signature. This edition reprints the original preface, dated 1779, the the first edition of this collection of John Wesley's hymns, first published in 1779. It also includes the section of Additional Hymns, not published in Wesley's lifetime and the Supplement of hymns, including those by Charles Wesley, with a preface dated 1830.
