Stencil-coloured lithographs by c. burckardt from weissenburg (alsace), dating around 1890."scheibenbild" translates to "disc picture" or "spinning wheel picture," a type of print originally meant to be cut out and assembled with other pieces to form a spinning toy. buckardt created these imaginative lithographs between the late 1800's to early 1900's. among the whimsical prints,caricatures of politicians,fairy tale characters,and personified animals are often featured. the prints would be used as education charts,festival hall decorations,puzzles and puppets. most of the prints were created through the process of stone lithography,where the men would print the black outlines and the women would paint the colours.
